On December 19, 1996, the Moon Palace opened its 417 new Roman-style Jacuzzi rooms for members and wholesalers. Less than one year later, the Palace Resorts developer is beginning construction on an additional 214 rooms at the Moon Palace. Palace Resorts Sales Representative, Rafael Del Rio explained, "The demand for Moon Palace has been greater than we anticipated. Its secluded location, plus the 5-star amenities being offered have made it the number-one hotel in Cancun. All 214 rooms will be built identical to the first 417. Every room will have an ocean-view balcony, two-person Jacuzzi, one king-sized or two queen-sized beds, large bathroom with shower, security safe and large closet. Construction began August 15, 1997 and is scheduled for completion on January 1, 1998.
