ORANJESTAD, ARUBA. May 14, 1998 Aruba Palm Beach Resort & Casino today announced the beginning of the final phase of a multi-million dollar upgrade project that will culminate in a repositioning of the property as the premier small, luxury resort in Aruba- the "new" Aruba Grand. By late December 1998, the new exterior look will be complete, highlighting the many dramatic interior changes that have quietly taken place over the past three years. This phase of construction will include a new entrance to the resort, changing of the exterior facade, restaurant remodeling and redesign of the pool and beach front area. The existing oceanfront guest rooms. located directly on the Palm Beach walk, will be converted into luxury "Grand Suites" complete with private beach front courtyards-a design that will impress the most discriminating VIP. New meeting facilities. nearly 5000 sq. ft.' are configured in three main salons and two executive boardrooms The final." stage of guest room renovations is now underway which includes new furnishings. refrigerators and in-room safes and upgraded bath amenities. In addition, sprinkler and alarm systems will be installed throughout the resort. The most significant changes until now have come with the redesign of the hotel lobby and the updated casino. Completed in January 1997, the new lobby look brought a classic Caribbean feel. complete with potted palms and island art, to a comfortable lounging space for the many repeat guests. The Oasis lobby lounge was added, complete with an ornate wood carved bar, ceramic Amstel beer tap, and a baby grand piano for evening entertainment. Earlier this month the resort announced the grand opening of the new casino, "Casino Merengue", highlighting the $1 million dollar renovation and management by Thunderbird Gaming of Canada, thereby completing another part of the overall upgrading strategy. The resort also announced today an affiliation with Prestige Resorts and Hotels, a collection of luxury resorts located throughout the US and the Caribbean.
